DESCRIPTION:In February-March 2023\, Nigeria went to the polls and has been passing through some of the most problematic and contested elections since its transition to democracy in 1999. Megan Chapman and Andrew Maki\, who have lived and worked in Nigeria for the past 11 years\, will share their own observations and the lived realities of their neighbors and colleagues in Lagos throughout this period – while reflecting on how political messaging used by the media-savvy party in power reflects recent global and US trends. This will be a unique opportunity to understand first-hand the struggles for democracy in the “giant of Africa” — a country whose youthful population is predicted to overtake the United States by 2050. \n
