SUMMARY:'Lenox Street' & The Impact of Arts Education (Jay Paris & Anna Myer\, beheard.world)
DESCRIPTION: \nJoin dance and filmmaking collaborators\, Jay Paris and Anna Myer\, for a screening of their award-winning short film\, Lenox Street\, and a discussion on the demonstrated impact of arts education for at-risk youth\, focused on the work of beheard.world\, which they co-founded. \nLenox Street follows the lives of 19 teenagers from one of Boston’s most violent neighborhoods with 39 major school infractions as they enter a three-month performing arts workshop and then go on stage around the city. The film looks at the power of the expressive arts to transform teenagers\, particularly teens who are struggling with their identities and place in the world. Lenox Street premiered in the GlobeDocs Film Festival in the fall of 2017 and continues to gain strong critical reviews. \nAnna Myer was a ballerina for the Boston Ballet and ballet mistress Ana Roje before founding Anna Myer and Dancers in 2001. Her innovative choreography has received the acclaim of some of the country’s most prominent dance critics\, including the New York Times and the Boston Globe. Jay Paris is a former magazine writer\, editor and author who has been published widely in national and international magazines and book presses before producing and directing award-winning documentary films. He began partnering with Anna Myer in 2011 to develop mixed genre stage performances that have toured nationally. Anna and Jay co-founded beheard.world with over a decade ago to focus on creating mixed genre pieces about social justice themes for stages and public spaces. \n
