SUMMARY:Making Dorodango: finding a perfection through play\, process and practice (with Missy McCormick)
DESCRIPTION:“[A]n artifact of such utter simplicity and perfection that it seems it must be either the first object or the last…”— William Gibson\n\nHikaru Dorodango\, or mud dumpling\, are made of a ball of mud and plant fiber\, shaped in the hand and refined into a perfect lustrous sphere through drying and polishing by hand.  The experience of making Dorodango spans from messy and fun at the beginning\, creative and experimental in the middle while adding colored clays and drying between working time\, and very meditative\, centering\, and grounding at the end while refining it into a perfect sphere.\n\nThis is a fire free clay workshop\, and will combine various refined dried clays with clay\, dried plant fibers\, and water foraged from WFC’s property. The workshop will span 5 days and include some work outside on picnic tables and some on the Lodge porch. Participants will meet each morning 10am-12pm\, and optionally 4pm-6pm to continue work.\n\n“The process is simple\, but the result makes it seem like alchemy.”\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Nature Photography Workshop (Gina Bilander\, photographer)
DESCRIPTION:\nGina Bilander presents a 5-day (M-F) nature photography workshop. All ages and levels of skill and equipment are welcome as we learn to translate what we see and respond to into photographs: that art and science of light. Morning sessions are from 10am to 12. Daily handouts are given on technique\, the history of photography and nature essays; and there a nearby field trips. One class discusses whether\, in this age of 24 hour multimedia saturation\, a photograph can still bear witness to the important issues of this time. \n \n\n

SUMMARY:Henri Cartier-Bresson: Master Street Photographer
DESCRIPTION:The life and work of Henri Cartier-Bresson\, the legendary and influential photographer\, spanned the most important historical events of the 20th century that continue to impact our understanding of the world today. His belief in capturing the “decisive moment” went beyond his artistic expansions of documentary photography to be present and photograph Africa in the 1920’s\, the tragic fate of the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War\, the liberation of Paris during WW2\, Gandhi during the last hours of his life and changing events in China. His lived experiences of working with film director Jean Renoir\, being interned in prison camps during the war to being one of the founders of the photo agency Magnum\, and portrait photographer of writers and artists such as Faulkner\, Camus and many others gave his work depth and meaning that endures. \nPresented by Gina Bilander\, photographer \n \n  \n
