SUMMARY:Ecological Theater Workshop: Raised By This Place (K. Garcia)
DESCRIPTION:Raised By This Place is a five-day spiritual and ecological theater workshop open to all ages. Over two hours each day\, participants will use embodied storytelling\, movement\, poetry\, and nature connection to explore the places and relationships that have shaped their lives. Activities include improvisational and introductory theater games\, writing original poems\, collage\, and artifact-making from found natural objects. The week culminates in a community sharing — poems performed\, artwork displayed\, open to all WFC guests and families. \nThe workshop is led by Katie Garcia\, a theater artist\, educator\, and researcher based in Brooklyn\, NYC. Katie holds an MA from Teachers College\, Columbia University\, where she conducted a research study on theater\, children’s spirituality\, and ecological identity that forms the foundation of this program. She has presented her work at Harvard Divinity School and international conferences and has facilitated this work with children and adults across multiple settings. No theater experience required. The fee is $75 per participant for the full five-day workshop (materials included). Minimum 6\, maximum 15 participants.  \n\nThis workshop is open to participants who are guests at WFC as well as people who are not guests at WFC. DESCRIPTION: \nOnce the most influential Jewish political force in eastern Europe\, the Jewish Labor Bund was secular\, socialist\, and uncompromisingly anti-Zionist. The Bundists fought for dignity and equality\, not in an imagined homeland in Palestine but “here where we live.” \nIn the first popular history of the Bund\, Crabapple re-creates their extraordinary world through dramatic portraits of insurgent poets and antireligious rebels\, clandestine revolutionaries and lovers on the barricades. The Bundists live deeply within this violent\, volatile\, and somehow hopeful period\, as their stories interweave with the Russian Revolution and the Holocaust. The Bund’s rise and fall raises the vital question: What can we learn from a movement that\, for all its toughness\, imagination\, and moral clarity\, was largely destroyed? \nHere Where We Live Is Our Country reanimates a band of idealists who broadened our global political imagination. SUMMARY:Unmasking of U.S. Militarism with Trump's "Whenever Wars" (K. Petersen-Smith)
DESCRIPTION:The boldness and broad unpopularity of this new era of Trump’s “Whenever Wars” may present real opportunities for concerted organizing against U.S. militarism. How can we take advantage of this moment within the U.S. and globally? Join this conversation with Khury Petersen-Smith\, the  Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow and the Co-Director of the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS)\, a research organization supporting movements to resist fascism and win transformational progressive change. \nKhury researches U.S. empire\, borders\, and migration and strategizes with activists to work against the violence that the U.S. carries out and supports around the world. Khury focuses especially on U.S. militarism in the Middle East and in the Pacific\, and movements that resist it. He graduated from the Clark University Graduate School of Geography in Massachusetts\, after completing a dissertation on U.S. military bases in the Pacific. He is one of the co-authors and organizers of the 2023 Black Voices for Ceasefire statement\, which was signed by over 6\,000 Black activists\, artists\, and scholars. His most recent work focuses on the U.S. war on Iran\, U.S.-Israel relations\, etc. \n
