About World Fellowship Center
World Fellowship Center is a non-profit, intergenerational social justice camp and conference center founded in 1941 in New Hampshire. Our mission is to promote social justice and connections between people, communities, and nature through education, recreation, and creative expression.
The ED is responsible for all programs, staff, and finances of World Fellowship Center. This includes development/fundraising, financial management and leadership, guest services, outreach and recruitment of guests and staff, supervision of personnel, oversight of buildings and grounds, developing program, moving the organization’s strategic goals forward, and community relations.
This is a year-round job. The ED must live on site May-October. Various configurations, including job share/co-directors, are welcome to apply.
Our new director(s) will overlap with our current directors beginning May 1, 2021. The position starts with full responsibilities January 1, 2022.
Supervision: Reports to Board of Trustees. Supervises 1-3 year round staff, approximately 30-35 summer seasonal employees, as well as volunteers and consultants.
The ideal candidate will possess many of the qualities and skills listed below and will have the ability to hire other team members with complementary qualities and skills.
- Alignment to social justice mission of the organization and ability to carry out and develop that mission.
- Ability to foster a welcoming, nurturing, inclusive, and safe environment for staff and guests.
- Willingness to get hands dirty and share in the day to day labor of running a summer camp and conference center with patience and humor.
- Proficiency in communication, financial management, and supervision.
- Excellence with problem solving and multitasking with ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with diverse groups such as WFC community, local community groups and businesses, other nonprofit organizations, etc.
- Appreciation of WFC history and its role as a retreat/vacation center supporting social change work while stewarding evolving vision.
- Ability to provide aspirational leadership for a multi-cultural, intergenerational, anti-racist organization and community.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and implement strategic vision, development, and evaluation with the board.
- Manage resources including financial recordkeeping/reporting and fundraising/donor relations.
- Produce intergenerational summer educational and cultural programs.
- Oversee operation of facility with dining service for up to 130 guests, as well as hosting special events such as weddings and retreats.
- Oversee year-round buildings and grounds management, which includes 455 acres, 6 main buildings and several smaller cabins, staff housing, meeting spaces, an organic vegetable garden.
- Recruit, hire, orient, train, and supervise 1-3 year-round staff and 30-35 on-site seasonal staff and volunteers; plan staff development towards retention; assign, direct, and evaluate work; discipline and dismiss as needed; ensure a safe work environment; address complaints and resolve problems; and oversee employment and payroll administration.
- Manage relations with contractors and suppliers
- Sustain outreach, publicity, and media relations efforts.
- Serve as ex officio member of the Board of Trustees and provide support to board committees.
- Oversee emergency and public health preparedness, education, and response, ensuring compliance with all insurance and legal requirements.
- Maintain relationships with members of the community throughout the year.
- Occasional travel required, especially through the northeastern US for outreach and community building.
Desired Experience & Skills
- Hospitality or service industry experience.
- Proficiency with non-profit administration and financial management.
- Personnel management including recruiting, hiring, training, and contract administration.
- Fiscal stewardship, fundraising, communication, management, and supervision.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation.
- Marketing, outreach, public relations.
- Ability to track and meet multiple deadlines, both internal and external.
- Understanding of social inequalities, grasp of the history of social movements, ability to promote peace and social justice, and alignment with World Fellowship’s mission.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency within information technology.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a year-round position with $50-70,000 salary. Benefits include paid vacation and holidays, retirement plan after one year, health coverage, flexible schedule during much of the year, room and board on site during the summer months with year-round housing negotiable.
