SUMMARY:Confronting Power through Non-Violence (Joanne Sheehan)
DESCRIPTION: \nThis participatory conversation draws lessons to inform the current moment from the last century of non-violent resistance that has confronted colonial\, racist\, corporate\, authoritarian\, and fascist powers. Veteran trainer and activist Joanne Sheehan\, one of those who trained the Clamshell Alliance prior to the 1977 occupations of the Seabrook nuclear power station\, will lead the conversation alongside members of the Clamshell Alliance and other activists in attendance. Joanne Sheehan has been on the staff of War Resisters League’s New England Office in Norwich\, CT since co-founding it in 1985. Active with War Resister’s International (WRI) since 1983\, she served as WRI Chair from 1998 to 2006. Joanne has been the Chair of the Voluntown Peace Trust (formerly the Community for Nonviolent Action) since 2012. She is also a Resistance Studies Fellow at UMass Amherst. \n
