SUMMARY:English-subtitled world premiere of the film\, FATHERS OF A THOUSAND SUNS (83 minute film\, followed by discussion)
DESCRIPTION:With Robert Oppenheimer once again in the popular consciousness\, on this Hiroshima Day anniversary\, learn about the fascinating history of Klaus Fuchs\, atomic scientist on the Manhattan Project\, only to then be imprisoned in Great Britain for providing the Soviet Union with research from the Project. For the first time\, this German-language film will be accessible to English speakers\, through subtitles\, thanks to the work of Professor Barton Byg\, who will present the film at World Fellowship\, and the DEFA Film Library at UMass Amherst. Professor Byg had previously attended sessions of the German Democratic Republic Symposia held annually at World Fellowship Center\, which ran from 1975 to 2000\, where\, of course\, he met then-WF Executive Director Christoph Schmauch\, occasioning this world premiere when Christoph and Kit Schmauch will themselves be visiting World Fellowship. There’s even more to this story that friends and associates of Christoph will surely want to explore in this expanded description. \n
