SUMMARY:250 Years of Resistance: Movement Songs with Ty Citerman
DESCRIPTION:Ty Citerman is a Brooklyn\, NY-based musician and regular at World Fellowship who will lead us in a night of songs of resistance. He has been a performing artist and song leader in various settings for more than 30 years. And on this 4th of July\, marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence\, it goes without saying that the United States faces a critical moment in our nation’s history. And here at WFC\, we choose to embrace our tradition as a nation of immigrants; as a nation built by working people; as a nation built (often under duress) by black and brown people; and as a nation that has not fully reckoned with many of its foundational contradictions. And as we organize alongside our immigrant neighbors – and organize for justice in so many spheres – the ancient tradition of movement singing remains forever important. Songs helped inspire those who held the line in sub-zero temperatures against the violence of ICE agents in Minneapolis this past winter – and in so many other settings past\, present and future. So we will joyfully and loudly sing songs together on July 4 that express outrage\, hope\, pain and solidarity  as we shore up for the fights ahead. Movement music is needed now more than ever. \n
