For our 80th Anniversary Summer, WFC offers Monday evening online programs. Wednesday and Saturday programs and Friday Fun Nights are on site. Some prior events can be accessed in the calendar archive and on the public World Fellowship Facebook page.

The Covid-19 Pandemic & the Ongoing Battle for National Health Care in the U.S.

Amidst all of the worldwide pandemic turmoil we’re still going through, one issue that no residents of any other wealthy country have to worry about is a medical bill. Our pandemic, on the other hand, has actually been exacerbated in part by Americans’ justifiable fear of ruinous medical bills associated with seeking care for Covid. What will it take to get us – finally – to adopt a sensible, equitable health care payment system for all? We’ll explore and discuss what we all can and must do.”
Martha Livingston, Ph.D., is Professor and Chair of the Public Health department at SUNY Old Westbury and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the New York-Metro chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program. She chairs the Socialist Caucus of the American Public Health Association, is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Public Health Policy and the Steering Committee of the Labor Campaign for Single Payer Health Care, and co-edited, with Mary E. O’Brien, M.D., 10 Excellent Reasons for National Health Care (New York: The New Press, 2008). She experienced real national health care firsthand while living in the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, for several years, and in the UK for a year. She currently serves as president of the Old Westbury chapter of her union, United University Professions, Local 2190 of the American Federation of Teachers. She is a lifelong activist in the civil rights, peace, labor and women’s health movements, a certified childbirth educator, a onetime organizer for 1199-SEIU, and a serious New York Mets fan.
