Many spiritual traditions embrace chanting, evolved through the millennia across India, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. Kirtan is devotional call and response chanting in Sanskrit, developed in India over 2500 years ago. Forms of chanting are similarly part of Jewish, Sufi, Pagan, and Christian traditions. Chanting – especially with others – shows effects such as calming the mind, reducing stress, healing, and generating feelings of peace.
Shana leads Kirtan, Sufi, Jewish and other chants by ear. Adherence to any religious belief system and previous musical experience are not necessary. Donations gratefully accepted.
