Obey Now, Grieve Later! Labor Comic Presentation by Peter Kellman
9 July @ 7:30 pm
A look at the history that got labor into the mess its in and suggestions on how to build a working class movement today… Obey Now, Grieve Later explains how rank-and-file solidarity can defeat bad bosses and bad working conditions. The comic book comes out of the experiences of some old shop stewards. We all learned from the shop stewards that came before us and hope to pass on those lessons to the next generation. When it comes to defending and promoting the rights and organizations of working class people, shop stewards are where the Rubber Meets the Road.
This newly published comic book will be presented by one of its authors, Peter Kellman. He has been an active participant in organized labor for 50 years. This years recipient of the Maine AFL-CIO’s Working Class Hero’s Award, Kellman has been a shop steward, local union president, central labor council president, author and organizer, best know for his role in the 1987-88 Paperworkers Strike in Jay, Maine. Today he has a seat on the UAW’s Maine CAP/PAC Council and is working with the Scontras Labor Center at the University of Southern Maine to bring a working class prospective into the classroom.
