Honoring the NH Lincoln Brigade at Long Last (Burt Cohen, Molly & Dan Watt)
13 July @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us for a special event unveiling a newly installed plaque commemorating the NH volunteers who joined the Abraham Lincoln Brigade to fight fascism in Spain in the late 1930s. Twenty-four years after the attempted installation of the plaque in the NH State House, where it remained for only two hours before political backlash led to its removal, this plaque has been released from the NH State vault and made available to World Fellowship where it will be proudly displayed as part of public education around global solidarity and the long and continuing struggle against fascism. The unveiling ceremony will include remarks from Burt Cohen, a former NH State Senator who led the effort to see the plaque commissioned and installed, and remarks and a performance from Dan and Molly Watt, whose play George and Ruth: Songs and Letters of the Spanish Civil War brings the perspective of Lincoln Brigade volunteers to life.
Needless to say, the relevance of this historical commemoration to the current moment in the United States will not be overlooked!
