Megan Hester: Crisis in Public Education as Democracy Fumbles
5 July @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
At the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, elite and authoritarian forces are moving to shape the country in their vision. This is playing out in the courts, in the legislatures, on the streets, and in our public schools. Public schools are now a key battleground in the effort to whitewash the country’s history through censorships and dismantle hard-fought public goods through exclusion and privatization. In this session, Megan Hester, National Campaign Director at the NYU Metro Center and the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools, will share how we got the public school system we have today, who are the forces trying to destroy it and why, and what communities are doing to fight back.
