Summer Social Justice Cinema: LandBack! Returning & Restoring Hawai’i’s Military Lands (Laurel Mei-Singh)
3 August @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
This week, we go behind the camera and into the issues with public scholar and aspiring filmmaker Laurel Mei-Singh as she explores ongoing organizing to demand the return of military lands in Hawai’i. In 2029, the Department of Defense’s leases for lands at several military bases in Hawai’i will expire and people are organizing for non-renewals and the return of these lands. Laurel will share clips from a documentary she is making in collaboration with community group Mālama Mākua.
Each Sunday night, join us for volleyball and games on the lawn until sundown. At sundown, settle down on blankets or outdoor chairs for a summer evening of social justice-themed film screenings you won’t easily find elsewhere. Topical documentaries and resistance narratives centered. Open to WFC guests and the surrounding community.
