Transformative Advocacy & Awakening Citizens to Their Power: A Climate Advocacy Case Study (Gary Rucinski, activist)
24 August @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Former Vice President Al Gore once remarked that “all we lack is the political will” to act on climate. In 2007 a retired real estate agent from southern California decided to do something about this. He founded Citizens’ Climate Lobby with a mission of building the political will for a livable world by awakening individuals to their power as citizens.
In this interactive session, participants will be introduced to the concept of transformational advocacy with examples drawn from the speaker’s 15-year history with CCL. Key to this experience has been the speaker’s own awakening to his power as a citizen and the equally rewarding experience of helping others do the same. Leave this session with an understanding of how to use transformational advocacy to advance solutions to issues you care about.
Gary Rucinski is a physicist, the Northeast Regional Coordinator for Citizens Climate Lobby, and the founder of Committee for a Green Economy, who has also run for a Massachusetts’ congressional seat and more local positions over recent years.
