Henri Cartier-Bresson: Master Street Photographer
13 July @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The life and work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, the legendary and influential photographer, spanned the most important historical events of the 20th century that continue to impact our understanding of the world today. His belief in capturing the “decisive moment” went beyond his artistic expansions of documentary photography to be present and photograph Africa in the 1920’s, the tragic fate of the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War, the liberation of Paris during WW2, Gandhi during the last hours of his life and changing events in China. His lived experiences of working with film director Jean Renoir, being interned in prison camps during the war to being one of the founders of the photo agency Magnum, and portrait photographer of writers and artists such as Faulkner, Camus and many others gave his work depth and meaning that endures.
